The flagship 3.5-billion-dollar Kilamba New City project, by China’s CITIC Construction, has converted a backward rural area into a modern satellite town in the Angolan capital Luanda.

China has been actively involved in Angola’s post-war reconstruction process, covering projects like urbanization and social housing. The Kilamba New City project has changed the lives of many Angolans.

In the world’s poorest continent and fastest-growing beer market, global brewers are being forced to reinvent themselves. Most Africans can’t afford the beers that brewers like Anheuser-Busch InBev NV, Heineken NV and Guinness maker Diageo PLC sell in other markets. That, combined with commodity price swings and the risk of high taxes on premium beers that could threaten steady profits, has led brewers to embrace low-price, locally formulated concoctions that would be unrecognizable to most Western consumers. In Uganda, off a red-dirt road in the Bugolobi suburb of the economic capital Kampala, customers crowd into a pub the size of a freight elevator and sip on warm mugs of beer served out of a 50-liter keg. Brewed from local sorghum, the beers, called Senator, are produced by a local unit of Diageo, the world’s largest liquor maker, and sell for about 1,700 Ugandan shillings......

Ethiopia is home to the continent’s first waste-to-energy facility after a launch of the Reppie project over the weekend. President Mulatu Teshome and other high level government officials were present for the event.

The facility is built on the Koshe landfill site located on the outskirts of the capital Addis Ababa. It was launched in 2013 as a municipal solid waste incarceration plant.
