Minister of petroleum stressed Tuesday on the importance of relations between Sudan and the Republic of Romania so as to renew and develop economic relations between the two countries that witnessed historical relations since years ago.

Government grants additional €500k to GOAL for South Sudan relief

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said it has allocated €500,000 to GOAL to help them respond to the urgent needs of tens of thousands of refugees in the Maban region of South Sudan.
This funding is in addition to an initial €200,000 provided to GOAL by Irish Aid for the same crisis in December, the DFA said.
GOAL is currently implementing an emergency programme to support a growing displaced population in Maban County in Upper Nile State, where refugee numbers are expected to reach 75,000 over the coming weeks.

Health ministry declares South Sudan meningitis free

The health ministry on Friday declared South Sudan meningitis free and denied media reports that an outbreak of the disease had occurred in parts of the country, which reportedly lies in the “meningitis belt.”
Lul Riek, the ministry’s director general for community and public health said in the last six weeks, only 24 suspected cases were reported in the country, through its surveillance reports conducted weekly.
Of the 24 cases, 20 were reported in Central Equatoria state, while the other four were from other unspecified states.

Sudan has secured a five-year delay on its debts to China, the finance minister said on Saturday, part of efforts to make up for the loss of revenues from the oil-producing south.
Ali Mahmoud also told reporters the United States had offered Sudan more debt forgiveness if it meets conditions including bringing peace to its southern border regions. Sudan had also exported some $400 million worth of gold so far this year, he said.
