IOM airlifts nearly 2,000 South Sudanese from Khartoum

At least 1,890 South Sudanese, who were initially stranded in Kosti, a way station located 300km south of Khartoum have been successfully airlifted to South Sudan, the International Organization of Migration (IOM) has announced.
The airlift, which began five days ago with two flights a day, is now up to four flights a day, each reportedly carrying about 150 passengers. However, IOM says it plans to increase the number of flights to six per day to complete the movement in the next few weeks.

World Bank Boosts South Sudan Government Efforts to Increase Agriculture Potential

South Sudan received a US$38 million World Bank grant today to help rehabilitate feeder roads and increase access to rural communities in high agricultural potential areas.
The grant will also help improve food security and local service delivery efforts in the vast country. The South Sudan Rural Roads Project grant was signed today by the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Hon. Kosti Manibe Ngai, and Laura Kullenberg, Country Manager for the World Bank in South Sudan.

Sudan set to devalue pound amid oil crunch

Sudan will allow foreign exchange bureaux and banks to trade dollars at a level close to the black market rate, effectively devaluing the pound, a senior banking official said on Friday.
Sudan's economy has been battered since the country lost three-quarters of its oil production to South Sudan when the latter became independent in July. Even though the pipelines are in Sudan, the two have been unable to agree on how much the South should pay to transport its oil.
