Qatar Petroleum and Total have signed a research and technology project that is aimed at boosting hydrocarbon production in the country.
This will be done by significantly improving the efficiency of acid stimulation, which is a “major concern” in carbonates oil and gas fields.
Since Qatar’s reservoirs are carbonates that dissolve in acid, the main idea of the project is simple — injecting acid in wells to dissolve a part of the rock segment, thus improving the permeability of the reservoirs and hence the productivity of the producing wells.

Khartoum Sudan's economy has not failed, President Omar Al Bashir said Sunday despite losing billions of dollars in oil revenue, and the unknown costs of a border war with South Sudan.
The International Monetary Fund has forecast Sudan's real gross domestic product to decline by 7.3 per cent this year after South Sudan separated in July, taking with it about 75 per cent of the formerly united Sudan's oil production worth billions of dollars.
